Fix Newsletter Form with Google reCAPTCHA in Shopware 6.7.8.2

If your newsletter subscription form stops working after upgrading to Shopware 6.7.8.2 while using Google reCAPTCHA V2 or V3, you may be encountering a known issue in this Shopware release.

In this article, we’ll explain the symptoms, the cause, and a temporary workaround until the official fix is available.

Symptoms

After upgrading to Shopware 6.7.8.2, you may notice one or more of the following:

  • The newsletter subscription form does not submit.
  • Google reCAPTCHA verification completes successfully, but nothing happens afterward.
  • Users are unable to subscribe to the newsletter.
  • No obvious JavaScript errors appear that explain the failed submission.

This issue affects stores using Google reCAPTCHA V2 or Google reCAPTCHA V3 on the newsletter form.

Cause

The issue is caused by a regression in Shopware 6.7.8.2 where the Google reCAPTCHA plugin does not correctly continue the newsletter form submission after successful verification.

As a result, the form submission process stops even though the reCAPTCHA validation succeeds.

The issue has been reported by the Shopware community and acknowledged by the Shopware team.

Affected Version

  • Shopware 6.7.8.2

If you’re running this version and your newsletter form uses Google reCAPTCHA, you may experience this issue.

Temporary Workaround

Until the official fix is included in a Shopware release, you can override the reCAPTCHA submission method in a custom plugin.

Create or update your storefront JavaScript and add the following code:

After adding the patch:

  1. Rebuild the storefront.
  2. Clear the Shopware cache.
  3. Deploy the updated storefront assets.
  4. Test the newsletter form to confirm that submissions work correctly with Google reCAPTCHA enabled.

Permanent Fix

This JavaScript patch is intended as a temporary workaround.

Once Shopware releases a version containing the official fix, you should remove the custom override and update your store to the patched version.

Always review the Shopware release notes before removing the workaround to ensure the issue has been resolved in your installed version.

Summary

If your newsletter form is not working with Google reCAPTCHA in Shopware 6.7.8.2, the issue is caused by a known regression affecting the reCAPTCHA submission flow. Applying the JavaScript override in a custom plugin restores the expected form submission behavior until the official Shopware fix is available. This approach allows customers to subscribe to your newsletter without disabling Google reCAPTCHA.
