The Problem

An outdated platform limiting performance and growth

Before approaching us, the client’s existing eCommerce setup required modernization to support their growing online sales. The platform lacked the flexibility and performance needed to meet modern eCommerce expectations.

They wanted to:

- Improve website performance and loading speed
- Provide a better and more intuitive user experience
- Simplify product and order management for administrators
- Transition to a scalable platform that could support future growth

The Challenges

Building within Shopware SaaS architectural limitations

One of the main technical challenges was working within the Shopware SaaS environment.
Unlike self-hosted platforms, Shopware SaaS does not allow direct server access or modification of the core platform code. This meant that all custom functionality had to be implemented using the Shopware App system and API integrations.

For example, during the project, we encountered a domain redirection issue (non-www to www). The problem was reported to the Shopware support team, who confirmed it would be resolved in a future platform update. Despite these constraints, the project required several customizations and integrations to meet the client’s business requirements.

Key limitations included:

No direct modification of Shopware core files

No access to the server environment or filesystem

Custom functionality needed to run through external app servers

Limited control over routing and domain configuration

The Solution

Building a scalable Shopware 6 SaaS webshop

To address the client’s needs, our team built a new webshop using Shopware 6 SaaS, focusing on performance, usability, and scalability. The project involved:

- Full Shopware 6 setup and configuration
- Selecting and customizing a theme aligned with the brand’s identity
- Creating CMS pages and structured content layouts
- Migrating data from the previous system using custom scripts
- Integrating shipping and payment plugins
- Implementing analytics tools

To extend the platform’s capabilities within the SaaS architecture, we also developed custom apps tailored to the client’s requirements. One of the key custom features implemented was a return module, enabling customers to manage product returns more efficiently while simplifying the process for store administrators. Our team also supported the client during the launch phase, ensuring the platform was stable and ready for production.

The Results

A faster and more scalable online store

The new platform significantly improved the overall performance and usability of the webshop. Customers now experience a faster, more intuitive shopping journey, while administrators benefit from simplified product and order management. Performance improvements include:

- 80+ PageSpeed score on mobile
- 90+ PageSpeed score on desktop
- Faster page load times
- Improved navigation and product discovery

The migration to Shopware 6 SaaS has provided the client with a modern, scalable foundation that can support future growth and ongoing digital expansion. The client is satisfied with the results and now has a platform better suited to their evolving e-commerce needs.
